If series reboots are the new black (and let’s face it, it’s either that or brutal melee takedowns), then it’s safe to say Lara wears hers well. And while this origins story leaves many of the franchise’s traditions at the door, Crystal Dynamics’ cobble job is thankfully far more Batman than Conan; more Street Fighter than Duke Nukem. It cribs heavily from the top dogs in its own as well as other genres, but it does so sensibly and effectively, while throwing in a handful of neat new features along with an enjoyable (if not always totally coherent) shipwreck storyline.
Now that Dead Space 3 and Aliens: Colonial Marines have failed to deliver significant scares – or much of anything when it comes to the latter – it’s time to look at what the year has in store for those craving horrors in the dark and an, er, moist controller.
A forum post from an alleged former Sony dev suggests that The Last Guardian is now a PS4 game. The title has apparently been restarted a number of times during development and at the last do-over was moved to PlayStation 4.
Life isn’t always easy when you’re Dovahkiin. I’ve saved the world from a dragon apocalypse, overthrown the Imperials as a key part of the Stormcloak rebellion, and rebuilt the Thieves’ Guild into a force to be reckoned with. So you could forgive me for wanting to take it easy. But no, now comes a largely enjoyable chunk of DLC that tasks me with taking on an evil pretender to my title.
Is this the first image of a PS4 controller? If it is then that’s a PlayStation 4 development kit in the background as well. The redesigned DualShock clearly shows the oft rumored touchpad and, more interestingly, what looks like a speaker/mic grill and Move integration.
Bungee teased the first info on their new shooter Destiny this week. While the game’s in the early stages of development here are the first images showing concept art for character classes, locations, enemies and more.
As you might hope, fighting aliens is the best bit of Aliens: Colonial Marines. There’s an almost retro feel to the action as you spiral and circle to hit them. As the Pulse Rifles spit and flare to a backing of Xeno screams and marine shouts it shows the game at its best – capturing a flavour of the movie and giving you the chance to take a starring role.
